Since 2002, HWI has focused its efforts in Latin America with recent expansion into Africa, serving over 240,000 people daily in 16 different countries. Position Summary: The Director of Marketing and Communications has primary accountability for creation and execution of proven and innovative marketing strategies, campaigns and initiatives that continuously expand the HWI audience, enrich the donor experience, inspire new levels of generosity and fuel the growth, scale, and impact of the HWI mission.

The DMC will contribute through a broad range of responsibilities including: vision casting, strategy development, storybranding, content creation, goal management, team development, annual planning and budgeting – all while being a hands-on contributor who rolls up their sleeves on a daily basis.

Key Responsibilities

· In alignment with the overarching organizational strategic vision and Advancement Division strategy and goals – plan, produce, deliver and manage a comprehensive marketing and communications program that includes (but is not limited to) digital and social media, targeted/automated email marketing, search engine optimization, website, and printed collateral

·      Build and lead a high-performing marketing and communications team, providing high challenge and high support to each team member

·      Develop all content for media platforms that clearly and powerfully tells the story of the impact of the work of HWI

·      Define and implement a brand strategy

·      Support Development Team with design and production of fundraising support materials including program reports and funding proposals

·      Envision, create and lead fundraising events, influencer campaigns, corporate engagement or other cause-related marketing efforts

·      Catalogue, evaluate, and enhance marketing efforts on an annual basis

·      Develop and maintain comprehensive marketing calendar outlining communication timelines and department resources involved

·      Establish dashboard to track objectives and key results (or lead and lag measures) to drive execution and monitor progress of marketing goals and objectives and report to CEO and board of directors on a regular basis

·      Incorporate use of data and analytics to optimize and evaluate results of all aspects of marketing plan and tactics

· Develop and manage annual plan and budget for marketing and communications· Provide strategic thought leadership and develop key tools and processes in the fields of marketing, communications, and public relations in the nonprofit sector

·      Engage in ongoing learning opportunities and career development


  • Bachelor or master’s degree in relatable field

  • Minimum of 5+ years of work experience related to marketing/ communications

  • Is a person of committed Christian faith, supportive of the HWI Statement of faith

  • Models actions and attitudes with authentic humility

  • Exceptional communication skills with proven ability to communicate effectively in writing and in person with individuals, small and large groups, and online

  • Disciplined organizational skills including establishing and meeting timelines and deadlines

  • Enthusiastic, energetic, self-directed, proactive, relationally smart with a solutions-oriented mindset and attitude

  • Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally

  • Ability and experience managing video creation, including planning, script writing, coordination

  • Expertise creating and managing website content, with an understanding of web analytics and search engine optimization

  • Experience developing and managing budgets, hiring, training, developing, and supervising personnel

  • Experience and success in event planning/management

  • Demonstrated ability and skill writing press releases and making presentations

  • Experience in Adobe Suite (specifically InDesign & Illustrator)

  • Experience in the design and production of print materials and publications

  • Salesforce and CRM experience
