Chief Stewardship Officer/Vice President

Organization:  

Design Outreach (DO) is a Christian humanitarian engineering nonprofit 501(c)3 organization that prioritizes the needs and aspirations of the world’s poor.  

Position:  

The Chief Stewardship Officer (CSO)/VP reports to the CEO/President and works closely with CEO/co-founders and Board of Directors. This person develops and executes strategies for advancing DO’s vision by fostering fundraising growth. This is accomplished by:

  • Assisting CEO/co-founders in developing a focus towards higher level fundraising growth and development.

  • Raising awareness and communication of DO’s past, present, and future scope and project plans.

  • Conducting major gifting programs, annual fund, planned giving, special events and, capital campaigns. 

The CSO works closely with the CEO/co-founders and the Board of Directors in all communication, development and fundraising endeavors.  

Qualifications:

  • Understands and supports the mission of a Christ-centered organization dedicated to sharing the Gospel by word and deed.

  • Passion and agreement with Design Outreach’s vision and motivation, as outlined in the case for support and employee handbook.

  • Ability to network into new groups of donors.

  • Can work effectively with donors, volunteers and allied organizations, many of whom may be motivated by a deep commitment to serving Jesus Christ.

  • Must provide astute strategic fundraising development and growth planning.

  • Have knowledge and experience in fundraising techniques, particularly major gift fundraising.

  • Strong interpersonal, relationship building, communications and writing skills.

  • Possess the skills to work with and motivate a team, board members/volunteers.

  • Have the ability and desire to reach out and build external relationships.

  • A ‘self-starter’ who is goal driven, initiating donor visits, fundraising calls, making “asks”, developing proposals, while being organized and exhibiting “follow through” on tasks and goals.

  • Display a positive attitude, show concern for people and community, demonstrate presence, self-confidence, common sense and good listening skills.

  • A bachelor’s degree is desired.

  • 5 years minimum experience in professional fundraising or equivalent field.

  • 10 years minimum professional experience with management experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage fundraising budget.

  • Be accountable to fundraising goals and activities.

  • Meet prospective donors and supporters on a continual basis to establish effective communication with them.

  • Grow a major gifts program including identification, cultivation and solicitation of major donors.

  • Oversee grant seeking including research, proposal writing, and reporting.

  • Build the planned giving program with a focus on deferred gifts such as bequest expectancies.

  • Direct the annual fund program, including mailings and fundraising drives.

  • Direct capital campaigns, major fundraising drives and special events.

  • Direct employee and volunteer fundraising drives.

  • Oversee prospect research.

  • Make public appearances/accept speaking engagements to share information about Design Outreach and its endeavors with the community.

  • Oversee fundraising database, giving platforms, and tracking systems.

  • Supervise and collaborate with other fundraising staff/volunteers.

  • Oversee creation of publications to support fundraising activities.

  • Maintain gift recognition programs.

  • Demonstrate professional conduct at all times.

  • Work from office in Columbus, Ohio with ability to travel domestically and internationally to meet with donors and supporters.

  • Perform other related duties as requested.
