Position Summary:

This is a full-time position reporting directly to the Director of Engineering and Innovation.  The Project Engineer is responsible primarily for applying sound engineering principals and excellent written and verbal communication skills to a variety of safe water and sanitation projects worldwide.  Typical Water Mission projects lend well to general civil and environmental engineering backgrounds. However, due to current needs within the ministry, preference will be given to backgrounds in electrical (specifically solar) or structural disciplines within the current opening.

Travel to remote locations in developing countries is required.  Candidate needs to be prepared to travel at least six months out of the year (i.e., multiple trips during a calendar year for a total of six months).  Candidate needs to be aware that travel to a disaster response situation may be required with only 72 hours of notice.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Develop project engineering scopes and designs for safe water and sanitation projects in developing country and disaster response settings

    • Conduct field inspections and site assessments in developing countries

    • Create standard and project-specific engineering designs, calculations, construction drawings, and specifications

  • Ability to cross engineering disciplines and gain a base level of understanding as required by projects

  • Prepare proposals and cost estimates for water and sanitation projects

  • Manage multiple simultaneous projects

    • Maintain good communications with multiple team members across multiple countries and time zones

    • Maintain good communications with outside entities

    • Ensure work is done within an agreed upon scope, schedule, and budget

  • Investigate and/or design new technologies and concepts for project implementation

  • Assist in the development of engineering standards for worldwide projects

  • Participate in disaster response activities as needed at headquarters, in field offices, and in unknown remote locations

  • Prepare and make presentations to other departments, country program office staff, strategic partners, donors, and volunteers

Qualifications Required:

  • Personal conviction in alignment with Water Mission’s statement of faith and lifestyle demonstrating core values of love, excellence, and integrity required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering – Civil, Electrical, Environmental (Chemical, Mechanical, and other Engineering degrees considered); preference will be given to candidates with electrical (specifically solar) or structural disciplines for the current opening

  • Engineering Intern Status (EIT) preferred (PE also considered)

  • 0-5 years of engineering experience (>5 years also considered)

  • Knowledgeable skills with office computer programs (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook) and engineering programs such as AutoCAD, EPANET, Microsoft Project, etc.

  • Excellent analytical skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills

  • Excellent relationship skills

  • Foreign language skills (preferred, not required)

  • Experience in developing county (preferred, not required)
