Senior Accountant

This position contributes to the mission of the organization by preparing, reconciling and analyzing financial information to ensure accuracy, transparency, and compliance with all applicable accounting rules and regulations.

General Accounting:

  • Ensure accurate maintenance of all general ledger accounts and records.

  • Review and reconcile corporate bank accounts.

  • Maintain the Fixed Asset and associated depreciation schedules; ensure proper recording of global acquisitions and disposals.

  • Review petty cash account balances and reconciliations regularly.

  • Complete special accounting-related projects and reports.

 Financial Statement Preparation:

  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts monthly.

  • Review and reconcile revenue monthly.

  • Compile, review, and incorporate field financial information into the headquarters’ financial reporting system.

  • Maintain contact with field office and headquarters’ program staff regarding financial reporting and grant regulations, assisting as needed.

  • Prepare and provide reports to Budget Managers, detailing monthly expenses by cost center

  • Prepare accurate, timely financial statements to the Executive Team.

  • Assist in preparation of scheduled reporting to individual, foundation, government and institutional donors.

Other Essential Duties:

  • Prepare annual state charitable solicitation registrations.

  • Assist with preparation of scheduled financial reporting to individual, foundation, government and institutional donors.

  • Assist the organization in grant proposal preparation by providing financial information as needed. Track and monitor submitted proposals; assist with preparation of requested financial attachments.

  • Assist Director, Finance in the preparation of annual budgets, updates, and forecasts.

  • Assist Director, Finance in annual renewal of corporate insurance policies.

  • Assist Director, Compliance with internal field office audits.

  • Assist Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Director, Finance and Director, Compliance with special projects as needed.

Strategic Plan Responsibilities:

  • In collaboration with your department, work towards the implementation of MTI’s current strategic plan and the accomplishment of the related strategic goals.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Provide support to the CFO and Director, Finance when necessary.

  • When appropriate, incorporate the use of volunteers in daily job functions.

  • Supports safeguarding of program participants and employees through promoting an environment of awareness and upholding the code of conduct provisions of Medical Teams Protection from Sexual Exploitation & Abuse, and Child & Vulnerable Adult protection policies and sexual harassment policies.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION, LICENSES, & CERTIFICATIONS                                                                                                                                         

Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting

EXPERIENCE                                                                                                                                                                                                      

Required:

  • Five (5) years of progressively responsible accounting work, or,

  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES                                                                                                                                                             

  • Familiar with modular based software system, such as GP, Blackbaud or ERP systems

  • 10-key skills.

  • Non-profit experience is a plus.

  • Commitment to Medical Teams International calling statement.

  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously; flexible.

  • Ability to operate well in a fast-paced work environment.

  • Ability to work flexible schedule and weekends as needed.

  • Ability to travel internationally on occasion
