What is the Opportunity?
Working under the direct supervision of the Chief Executive Officer, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is responsible for directing the fiscal functions of the ministry in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles issued by the Financial Accounting Standards Board, the Internal Revenue Service, and other regulatory organizations. In addition, the CFO will direct all fiscal functions in accordance with financial management techniques and practices appropriate within the nonprofit industry. The CFO has global responsibility for all staff in the Financial Services division. The Financial Services division includes the following global departments: finance, accounting, payroll, compliance, risk management, procurement, and supply chain. This is a full-time position based in Charleston, SC, USA, and requires occasional international travel as dictated by the needs of the ministry.
A successful Chief Financial Officer will:
- Maintain a strong Christian witness and model servant leadership to colleagues, partners, the communities we serve, and the public.
- Engage and participate in prayer before and after team meetings.
- Lead and participate in biblically based staff devotions.
- Plan, develop, organize, implement, direct, and evaluate the organization’s fiscal function and performance.
- Participate in developing the ministry’s plans and programs as a strategic partner.
- Evaluate and advise on the impact of long-range planning, introduction of new programs/strategies, and regulatory action.
- Develop and monitor timely and accurate analysis of budgets, financial reports, and financial trends to assist the CEO/President, COO, the Board, and other senior executives in performing their responsibilities.
- Enhance and/or develop, implement, and enforce policies and procedures to improve the overall operation and effectiveness of the ministry.
- Establish credibility throughout the organization and with the Board as an effective developer of solutions to business challenges.
- Develop and implement risk management strategies, ensuring that all financial risks, especially those related to international operations, are effectively mitigated.
- Provide technical, financial advice and knowledge to others within the financial discipline.
- Continue improving the budgeting process by educating department managers on financial issues impacting department budgets.
- Provide strategic financial input and leadership on decisions affecting the organization.
- Optimize the handling of bank and deposit relationships and initiate appropriate strategies to enhance cash position.
- Develop a reliable cash flow projection process and reporting mechanism that includes a minimum cash threshold to meet operating needs.
- Be an advisor from the financial perspective on any contracts into which the corporation may enter.
- Leverage financial technology to streamline operations, improve transparency, and increase the efficiency of financial processes globally.
- Evaluate the Financial Services division structure and plan for continual improvement of the group's efficiency and effectiveness.
- Provide the global Financial Services division with leadership providing professional, personal, and spiritual growth opportunities and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

- Minimum 15+ years of experience in a senior level finance role (international and nonprofit experience strongly preferred).
- Advanced skills with MS Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, and SharePoint).
- Minimum three years of experience with an Enterprise Resource Planning system (NetSuite preferred) and a forecasting system (Workday Adaptive preferred).
