Job Title: Director of Marketing & Communication

Reports to: Chief Development Officer

Location: HQ office in Bentonville, AR; remote possible

Status: Full-time, Exempt

 

Position Summary: The Director of Marketing and Communications will lead Water for Good’s efforts in raising awareness, engaging current and potential donors and partners, and driving support for the mission. The Director of Marketing and Communications will be responsible for developing and executing comprehensive marketing and communication strategies to amplify our impact and reach our goals closely working with the Chief Development Officer and Development team.

 

Responsibilities & Duties Overview:

Mission and Strategy

  • Develop and execute integrated global marketing and communication strategies to increase public awareness of Water for Good's mission, programs, and impact. Utilize a donor-centric framework to develop concise and compelling messaging for all external communications according to Water for Good’s branding guidelines
  • Continuously seek to improve the internal communication of Water for Good’s vision and values, reinforcing our faith- and mission-driven culture closely working with the Chief People Officer and utilizing Intranet for that purpose

 

System Design and Oversight

  • Develop clear communications and marketing strategy and targets, aligned with fundraising priorities, and create performance dashboards to track the progress and results
  • Develop and improve capacity to assess performance and ROI of marketing and fundraising activities and campaigns
  • Oversee the usage of all marketing tools, including Pardot, PhotoShelter, and Fundraise, ensuring effective utilization and optimization of these platforms to drive engagement and support
  • Utilize data analytics tools and platforms, such as Google Analytics, to track and analyze key performance metrics, evaluate campaign effectiveness, and optimize strategies for maximum impact
  • Provide regular reports and updates on digital ad print marketing and fundraising performance, insights, and recommendations to the Chief development officer

 

Digital Marketing & Fundraising

  • Manage and optimize Water for Good's digital presence, including website, email marketing, social media channels, and online advertising campaigns and reach the new web revenue annual target of $400,000 and drive donor acquisition, retention, and stewardship
  • Implement and manage email marketing campaigns, including segmentation, automation, and A/B testing, to nurture donor relationships and drive conversions
  • Work with digital marketing agencies, vendors, and partners to enhance our capabilities and expand our reach
  • Develop and oversee the execution of social media strategies to increase brand awareness and engagement

 

Campaigns and Content

  • Work closely with the Chief Development Officer and Development team to plan goals, strategies of various Annual Fund and Major Giving campaigns and create or manage the development of content and marketing strategies that will enhance organizational growth goals and fundraising targets
  • Manage the team of in-house and contracted design and copywriting professionals. Oversee creation and revision of all marketing collateral and channels in support of fundraising activities
  • Create engaging and targeted content for key donor segments, including presentations, one-page briefs, brochures, presentations, video storyboards, email campaign content, social media campaign guidelines/storylines, donor reports, and general content strategies across all channels
  • Manage the requests from the development team members for donor communications and stewardship

 

Story Collection and Communicating Impact

  • Travel to countries to gain context, understanding, and content for communications campaign
  • Establish the impact story collection process closely working with the Sr. Communication Officer and collect evidence of program implementation and impact stories from local communities
  • Engage freelance photographers or videographers to capture high-quality visual content
  • Train and equip the Sr. Communication Officer to collect high quality stories, photos and videos from the field
  • Develop sensitive, cross-cultural understanding and awareness
  • Ensure ethical representation of communities and individuals in the serving countries in all Water for Good publications and social media, building trust, understanding, and relationships across contexts
  • Utilize stories collected to assist with grant proposals and reporting, and major donor stewardship and reporting

 

Planning for Growth

  • Assist Chief Development Officer in creating the budget
  • Create a staff and contractor plan for marketing and communications roles as Water for Good grows, including training and education opportunities, and participation in the hiring process
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Work Experience & Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

  • Passion for Water for Good’s mission of transforming lives through sustainable access to safe water, as well as improved sanitation and hygiene, in places that need it most.
  • 8 to 10 years of professional experience
  • Proven track record of high-level management in a fast-growing $15 million+ organization
  • BA in Marketing & Communications, Business, Management, or related degree
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States; no sponsorship will be provided

Marketing

  • Portfolio of creative and professional content and campaigns with a track record of effectiveness and assessment of ROI
  • Experience developing digital and print brand strategies, including editing or managing website and design contractors or teammates  
  • Commitment to storytelling, demonstrating impact, and experience developing values-driven content that reflects organizational and supporter values
  • Experience developing campaigns for faith-based non-profits, with a demonstrated nuanced understanding of communications strategies that engage diverse faith-based communities in the USA
  • High standards for visual media and experience driving brand development and aesthetics of a non-profit organization

Management

  • Data-driven decision maker, able to assess ROI of various channels, troubleshoot and implement solutions to increase effectiveness and efficiency
  • Demonstrated resourcefulness in setting priorities, proposing new ways of creating efficiencies, and guiding investment in people and systems
  • Good knowledge and experience using CRM and organize, manage and evaluate performance
  • Proficient in utilizing project management tools such as Asana

General

  • Technologically savvy, with clear examples of having worked with IT staff to develop and implement new processes and systems that increased efficiency in a fast-moving environment
  • Flexible and a self-starter; able to multitask while also being highly detail oriented
  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a commitment to Water for Good’s mission
  • Experience working collaboratively and collegially with a diverse group of individuals that includes staff from multiple countries, Board of Directors, major donors, and partners

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience developing and managing communications for international NGOs
  • Master’s degree in marketing, communications, or a related field
  • Experience living or working in Sub-Saharan Africa
  • Experience with StoryBrand or other donor/customer-centric communications frameworks
  • Experience with marketing, design, and CRM platforms, such as Salesforce, Pardot, and Adobe
  • Photography skills and familiarity with photo management and editing software
  •  

Physical Qualifications:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at a time
